Charmat (Tank) Method

Charmat (Tank) Method [pronunciation: shar-mohn]

A method of producing sparkling wines in which the second fermentation process occurs within a stainless steel tank, rather than in-bottle. This process tends to be both time- and cost-efficient, and can take as little as one week to complete. Some of the world’s most popular sparkling wine varieties are made in the Charmat method, including Prosecco, and many value sparkling wines.
